Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a perennial evergreen herb with woody stems, grey-green leaves, and blue to purple flowers. It is a member of the Lamiaceae (mint) family, native to the Mediterranean. Sage is nutritionally rich – particular vitamin K – containing more than 160 different polyphenols, which act as antioxidants. Sage also has antimicrobial properties, and there is some promising research into its ability to aid brain function
