Organic Chamomile flower loose tea (Matricaria recutita) is a daisy-like, annual plant of the Asteraceae family, Chamomile is commonly used as a herbal infusion and traditional medicine, as well as in soaps and cosmetics. The flowers are used to support the nervous system and digestion, and have been shown to relieve the effects of anxiety and promote a restful night’s sleep.
This Chamomile is supplied by a family-owned Egyptian producer, run by four brothers, with whom the company have worked for a number of years. Over the last two years the company have invested in a ground-breaking joint programme to grow some of the crops on virgin desert land in Egypt, helping to improve crop quality and organic integrity. This has involved specific training for the farmers on organic growing best practice, the production of high-quality composts to increase soil fertility, and establishing clean water supply by digging a bore hole.
Chamomile flower is harvested from February to early June – smaller, high-quality whole flowers are picked by hand early in the season.
